Beatriz da Costa

Biography

Beatriz da Costa is an Interdisciplinary Artist and Tactical Media Practitioner. Beatriz' background is in interactive installation and robotic art. Her current interests include exploration and project development concerned with the social implications of AIDC (Automatic Identification and Data Collection) technologies. Swipe, an ongoing project with Brooke Singer and Jamie Schulte contextualizes the impact of driverĀ¹s license data collection practices within the United States on the increase of already existing social inequalities. In addition, Beatriz has worked in collaboration with Critical Art Ensemble since summer 2000 and has taken part in the development and implementation of various bio-tech initiatives and models of contestational science. Beatriz work has been exhibited at the New Museum in New York, ISEA in Japan and the World Information Organization in Belgrade. She has recently joined the faculty of UC Irvine as an Assistant Professor of Studio Art, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
