Rachel Baker

Rachel Baker is a network artist based in London. Between 1991 and 1996 she attended art colleges including Exeter College Of Art and Design, Newport School of Art and Design, and Goldsmiths College where she completed an MA in Design Futures, studying internet + audio communications and pseudo-interactive marketing.

Since 1997 she has worked as an artist, web developer and in internet and internet radio. Her art practice explored techniques used in contemporary marketing to gather, survey and distribute data, and her underlying  motives were about mobilizing networked communities. Radio combined with Internet (Net.radio) formed a key area of her activity, and also mobile phone SMS interventions. The last project of this nature explored train traveling as a site for public and private distributed art practice. Currently she is administrating grants at the Arts Council of England as Media Arts Officer for London, and making music with Antifamily, one of a number of bands with the independent label Difficult Fun.
