Nuit Debout

Nuit Debout is a French social movement that began on March 31, 2016, arising out of protests against proposed neoliberal labor reforms known as the "Loi Travail," or the "El Khomri Law".

The movement is centred at Paris's Place de la République, where protestors have held nightly assemblies following the March 31 protest. The movement has spread to dozens of other cities and towns in France and to neighbouring countries in Europe.

Nuit Debout Press Release March 31

THURSDAY MARCH 31ST 2016, AFTER THE DEMONSTRATION DON’T GO HOME, LET’S OCCUPY THE SQUARE! THIS IS THE LAST STRAW...

The new draft of the Labour Law has mobilized so many people across France because, whilst pushing injustice ever further, it has now hit bearable limits. Our rulers are stuck in the obsession that perpetuates a collapsing system that demands increasingly backward ‘reforms’, and always submits to the neoliberal agenda that has been in place for the last 30 years. All power is given to shareholders and corporations, the one percent who monopolize the commons.

This system is imposed on us, government after government, using multiple forms which deny democracy. Even if this Labour Law draft is ultimately withdrawn and Prime Minister Manuel Valls  red, we still won’t go home. This world they are building for us, that works against us, we do not want it!

A popular movement is born. Students, workers, unionised or not, the angry unemployed, all those discriminated, environmentalists, farmers and ZAD activists, it is spreading everywhere and it is magni cent to behold.

OUR DREAMS AGAINST THEIR PRIVILEGES

On the program: entertainment, food, concerts, sharing information, a permanent citizens assem- bly and many surprises. March 31st, we will gather, discuss and decide together the actions that will make #NuitDebout the beginning of a citizen movement. We will carry our hopes  rm and proud. Solutions exist, we have sources of inspiration, ideas, experience, knowledge, know-how, energy and happiness. The turning point is at hand.
We invite all those who, even beyond their opposition to the destruction of the new Labour Code, would aspire to build an ambitious, progressive and emancipatory political project to join us at the end of the demonstration of March 31st.

Details will be progressively published on the website www.convergence-des-luttes.org
