Special "Merseyside editions" of The S*n appear in Liverpool newsagents: The Truth - We Lied

A spoof edition of The S*n tabloid newspaper has started to appear at Liverpool news agents, following the Sun's refusal to mention the Hillsborough inquest verdicts on its front page, and the infamous 'The Truth' front page on April 19, 1989, containing false accusations towards Liverpool fans. In parallel a nation wide campaign has started refusing free World Cup promotion editions of The Sun across the UK.

"The Hillsborough disaster was a human crush that caused the deaths of 96 people and injured 766 others at a football match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium, Sheffield, England, on 15 April 1989."

Mocked-up copies parody disgraceful The Truth front page

The mock-up copies feature the words "The Truth: We Lied" in giant letters, echoing the infamous "The Truth" headline which the tabloid ran following the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989.

A number of people have posted pictures of the adapted copies on display in newsagents.

One said: "Just saw this in shop in town. If they're not going to own up then I'm glad someone's doing it for them."

Liverpool boycotts The S*n

The S*n caused widespread anger when it refused to make any mention of the momentous Hillsbrough inquest verdicts on its front page earlier this week.

The Times also failed to mention the verdicts before changing its mind for the second edition and adding a photo and promotion for the news at the top of the page.

The Co-op group was also the subject of an online petition to stop selling The S*n on Merseyside.

The supermarket group said it would continue to sell the paper.

A spokesman said: "Like other national retailers we sell The S*n in all our UK stores including those in Liverpool.

"We know that some customers in the area want to buy The S*n. We believe it's right to offer our customers the choice of buying the paper and then for them to exercise that choice by either buying it or not. As always we will continue to listen to our members."

Homes all over Britain show Hillsborough support and tell posties to bin The Sun

Strike victory for Mersey Royal Mail workers and now rest of the country follows suit

Households all over the country are showing their support for Hillsborough campaigners by putting up home-made signs declining the free copy of The Sun.

Royal Mail will deliver millions of free copies this week as part of a World Cup promotion by the newspaper, although not in Liverpool where it has been staunchly boycotted since 1989 due to its coverage of the Hillsborough disaster .

Deliveries will now also not be made in many areas of Merseyside after postal workers threatened to strike if they were forced to handle it .

Many people across the country however have taken to Twitter to show off the posters and signs they have made instructing their postmen of their wish not to receive a copy.

Campaigners are also suggesting that those who do receive a copy against their wishes should either fold it in a piece or paper or seal it in an envelope and post it back to The Sun.
